The Mezzaluna Kennel was established in the 1970s after a careful search for the best national and international bloodlines of the breed.

Mrs. Ungaro Bartoli Maria Rossella and her husband, Lawyer Petrelli, worked for 45 years on the genetic selection of the Red Irish Setter, dedicating themselves with passion, integrity, intuition, and tenacity, and produced high-quality dogs that still stand out today for their conformation and temperament. The kennel boasts a large number of champion dogs and numerous accolades within the canine community.

The Birth of the Kennel

The History

These two dogs, in addition to giving great satisfaction to their owners, gave life to what later became one of the most important Italian kennels for the Red Irish Setter breed.

Even today, the memory of Derrycarne Paddy Boy and Orma dei Diavoli Rossi can be found in the gaze or in the head shape of some of our dogs.
After careful study of the best kennels of the time, Mr. and Mrs. Ungaro-Petrelli purchased a male specimen from the renowned 'Derrycarne' Kennel of Maureen McKeever in Dublin, and a female specimen from the 'Diavoli Rossi' Kennel of Dr. Renzo Guidotti, who was an important figure for the breed in Italy.

Remembering the Progenitors

"
Your life, right up to the last painful stroke, marked a truly indelible 'footprint' (orma) in our memory and our hearts.
Proud, confident, certainly aware of your beauty and elegance, everyone remembers you as an undisputed winner in the rings for many years.
Your children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren speak to us of you, and in one of them—and thus the mysterious circle of nature is complete—just today I discovered the mischief and joy in your gaze. Meanwhile, you may continue to run intoxicated in the spring wind, on the infinite green meadows: farewell 'momma, momma'.
We will never fill the void you left, as everything speaks of you—the photos of your victories, your trophies. That void has converted into the clear realization that we will never again see your unmistakable almond-shaped eyes on this earth.

the statement
With this message, I communicate to friends and clients that, due to the wishes repeatedly expressed by my wife, the Kennel Name (Affix) of our Irish Setters is being passed to Mr. and Mrs. Greco-Brilli. I am completely certain that our friends will dedicate themselves to continuing the work done by my wife over all these years, valuing her teachings, her integrity, and her honesty. These qualities were the foundation of her breeding activity and always distinguished her.

I particularly wish to clarify the above to avoid unpleasant comments and rumors that have circulated following the passing of my wife Rossella.

I wish our friends good work, and I hope to see new and marvelous litters soon.
